Dreamland, Margate CPU Kitchen Design & Install

Caterplan are proud to have been involved with the £25m revamp of Margate’s Dreamland which dates back to the early 1860’s.  Caterplan designed, supplied & installed a CPU kitchen in ‘The Hall-by-the-Sea’ – a Grade 2 listed building and Dreamland’s main indoor space.

The iconic hall, a 2000 capacity venue and previously known to many in the 60’s & 70’s as the ‘Dreamland Ballroom’, hosted megastars such as the Rolling Stones & The Who.  The new catering facility is to be used for large scale events & hospitality.

We carried out a full turn-key commercial kitchen installation of which the scope of works included M&E, Ventilation with an Ansul fire suppression system. We also fitted Altro white rock wall cladding & Altro stronghold vinyl flooring as well as the usual bespoke stainless steel fabrication, catering equipment and walk-in refrigeration.

One of the major challenges of the project was the ventilation system design and routing all the ducting from the basement kitchen up to the plant deck at high level. The duct had to be routed through the same route as the Stannah service lift which was a challenge in itself, considering the amount of structural steelwork within the building. The easy route could not be taken, due to the buildings grade II listed status.

Following five weeks of hard work, the kitchen was eventually handed over to the client within the agreed time frame.
