St John’s C of E Primary School Kitchen Installation, Buckhurst Hill

St John’s Primary school in Buckhurst Hill were investigating the feasibility of installing a catering kitchen to freshly prepare school meals on site and were introduced to Caterplan by a client recommendation.

The challenge was to find space large enough for the kitchen without the need for expensive building extensions and design a kitchen maximising the available space.

Whilst utilising the existing warming kitchen and wash up area, our design utilised some adjacent rooms and by removing some partition walls we opened up the area to create a larger open plan kitchen space.

To ensure that the facility had enough food storage some additional outside space was also utilised and a single storey timber structure was constructed to house a walk-in chiller and freezer room. Caterplan implemented the design and carried out a turn-key installation with all works completed over the summer holidays and ensured the kitchen was fully operational in time for the start of the new Autumn term.

Following the handover our client made the following comments:

’’Our new kitchen project has been a tremendous success. At the very beginning of the project, Dan understood the brief and challenges of installing a kitchen in a small space. Dan came up with a strong design which maximised the available space. Smart solutions made the project a reality. We are delighted with the attention to detail and the quality of the final finish. The whole project was delivered on time and as planned.’’
